The 39th
Biennial Convention was held in Baltimore, Maryland at the Convention Center
on November 2-7, 2007. There were more than 2,000 nurses from around the
world in attendance including chapter officers Susan Vaughn and Lisa Hansen
and new Queens faculty member, Laree Schoolmeesters.
The theme of the biennial was Vision to Action:
Global Health Through Collaboration. During the convention, nurses from
33 countries gave 850 original presentations describing research and
projects designed to improve worldwide health care by advancing nursing
science, practice, education, administration and policy development.
Vision 2020 Forums
were presented on how the honor society's
leadership has outlined a 13-year strategic plan - identified as Vision
2020 - that supports the organization's mission of creating a global
community of nurses to improve health. Several sessions were held during the
convention to educate attendees on how the plan will affect the honor
society's future.
The
honor society's House of Delegates
met to elect members of the board of directors and other standing
committees, vote on the approval of petitioning honor societies for chapter
chartering, and vote on proposed bylaws amendments. The petitioning honor
societies were as close as the Cabarrus College of Health Sciences in
Concord, NC and from as far as Swansea University and Cardiff University in
Swansea and Cardiff, Wales and Universidad Nacional de Columbia in Bogata,
Columbia.
November
7th was the last day in office for
Nancy Dickenson-Hazard who
had served as STTI’s chief executive officer since 1993.
Patricia Thompson began
her tenure as CEO on November 8th. President
Carol Picard transitioned
the role of president to Carol
Huston.
